German Chocolate Cake

Ingredients
Cake
- 8 oz Sweet German Chocolate (broken in pieces)
- ½ cup Warm Water
- 1 cup Butter
- 4 Egg Yolks
- 1 tbsp Pure Vanilla Extract
- 2½ cups Flour
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 1 tbsp Baking Powder
- ½ tsp Salt
- 1 cup Buttermilk
Filling
- 2 cups Sugar
- 2 cups Evaporated Milk
- 1 cup Butter
- 6 Egg Yolks Beaten
- 2 cups Coconut Flakes
- 2 cups Chopped Pecans
- 2 tbsp Pure Vanilla Extract
- ¼ cup Chocolate Morsels
Instructions
- Grease and line three 9-inch cake pans and set aside.
Cake
- In saucepan with very low heat combine Sweet German Chocolate and Warm Water to melt then let cool.
- In mixer cream Butter and Sugar until light and smooth.
- Add Egg Yolks and Pure Vanilla Extract one at a time and beat until pale yellow.
- In a separate bowl sift together Flour, Baking Soda, Baking Powder and Salt.
- Add flour mixture to batter slowly alternating with Buttermilk and Melted Chocolate.
- Pour batter into pans and bake in 350℉ oven for 40-45 minutes or until inserted toothpick comes out clean and dry. Let cool before assembling.
Filling
- Place Sugar, Evaporated Milk, Butter and 6 Beaten Egg Yolks in a saucepan and cook until golden brown and custard-like.
- Add Coconut Flakes, Chopped Pecans and Pure Vanilla Extract. Blend and let cool.
Assemble
- Spread filling on top of each layer of cake and stack.
- Melt ¼ cup Chocolate Morsels. Drizzle melted chocolate over cake and let set in refrigerator until ready to serve.
