German Chocolate Cake

Ingredients
  

Cake

  • 8 oz Sweet German Chocolate (broken in pieces)
  • ½ cup Warm Water
  • 1 cup Butter
  • 4 Egg Yolks
  • 1 tbsp Pure Vanilla Extract
  • cups Flour
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 tbsp Baking Powder
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 1 cup Buttermilk

Filling

  • 2 cups Sugar
  • 2 cups Evaporated Milk
  • 1 cup Butter
  • 6 Egg Yolks Beaten
  • 2 cups Coconut Flakes
  • 2 cups Chopped Pecans
  • 2 tbsp Pure Vanilla Extract
  • ¼ cup Chocolate Morsels

Instructions
 

  • Grease and line three 9-inch cake pans and set aside.

Cake

  • In saucepan with very low heat combine Sweet German Chocolate and Warm Water to melt then let cool.
  • In mixer cream Butter and Sugar until light and smooth.
  • Add Egg Yolks and Pure Vanilla Extract one at a time and beat until pale yellow.
  • In a separate bowl sift together Flour, Baking Soda, Baking Powder and Salt.
  • Add flour mixture to batter slowly alternating with Buttermilk and Melted Chocolate.
  • Pour batter into pans and bake in 350℉ oven for 40-45 minutes or until inserted toothpick comes out clean and dry. Let cool before assembling.

Filling

  • Place Sugar, Evaporated Milk, Butter and 6 Beaten Egg Yolks in a saucepan and cook until golden brown and custard-like.
  • Add Coconut Flakes, Chopped Pecans and Pure Vanilla Extract. Blend and let cool.

Assemble

  • Spread filling on top of each layer of cake and stack.
  • Melt ¼ cup Chocolate Morsels. Drizzle melted chocolate over cake and let set in refrigerator until ready to serve.
