Apple Caramel Cake

This is the ultimate fall dessert that is perfect alone or with ice cream.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 Apples (granny smith or honey crisp work well)
  • 1 stick Unsalted Butter
  • ½ cup Brown Sugar
  • ½ tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 pinch Salt

Batter

  • 1 stick Butter
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 pinch Additional Salt
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla Extract
  • 2 cups Flour
  • ½ tsp Baking Powder
  • ½ tsp Baking Soda

Caramel Sauce

  • 1 stick Additional Butter
  • ½ cup Additional Sugar
  • ½ cup Heavy Cream

Instructions
 

  • Wash, peel, core and slice Apples ¼-inch thick.
  • In sauté pan place Unsalted Butter, Apples, Brown Sugar, Cinnamon and Salt and sauté until apples are slightly tender.
  • Butter 9-inch round baking pan and arrange cooked apples in a circle patter in pan.

Batter

  • In bowl of stand mixer cream together Butter and Sugar. When creamy add Additional Salt, Eggs and Vanilla Extract and blend to incorporate.
  • Slowly add Flour, Baking Powder and Baking Soda.
  • When flour is blended pour batter over apples and bake in 350℉ oven for 35-45 minutes or until inserted toothpick into the cake comes out clean. Let rest for 5 minutes before turning out onto a platter.

Caramel Sauce

  • In saucepan place Additional Butter and Additional Sugar. When melted and smooth add Heavy Cream.
  • Mixture will bubble violently. Gently stir then pour caramel sauce over cake.

Serve

  • Serve with a scoop of Vanilla-Cinnamon Ice Cream and a dollop of Maple Whipped Cream.
