Ingredients

  • cups Flour
  • ½ cup Dark Cocoa Powder
  • ½ tsp Black Pepper
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • tsp Cinnamon
  • ½ lb Raisins
  • Bourbon (to cover raisins)
  • ½ lb Melted Lard
  • ½ cup Chopped Walnuts
  • ½ bag Semi-sweet Chocolate Morsels
  • 2 cups Milk

Icing

  • 1 bag Confectioners' Sugar
  • ¼ cup Warm Milk (more or less as needed - you want a slightly thick glaze)

Instructions

  • In mixing bowl mix Flour, Dark Cocoa Powder, Black Pepper, Baking Soda and Cinnamon.
  • In separate bowl soak Raisins in Bourbon (to cover) for approximately 1-2 hours then drain. Reserve some liquid for later if needed.
  • To flour mixture add drained raisins, Melted Lard, Walnuts, and Semi-sweet Chocolate Morsels and blend well. Slowly add Milk.
  • Mixture will be slightly sticky. Roll or scoop into small balls and place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake in a 350℉ oven for 8-10 minutes. Bottoms will appear to be cooked and balls will look slightly undercooked - that is correct.
  • While still warm dip balls into icing and let cool on a wire rack.

Icing

  • Mix together Confectioners' Sugar and Warm Milk. You want a slightly thick glaze.

Notes

Instead of the sugar icing, roll chocolate balls in granulated sugar to coat.
