Ingredients
- 4¾ cups Flour
- ½ cup Dark Cocoa Powder
- ½ tsp Black Pepper
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 1½ tsp Cinnamon
- ½ lb Raisins
- Bourbon (to cover raisins)
- ½ lb Melted Lard
- ½ cup Chopped Walnuts
- ½ bag Semi-sweet Chocolate Morsels
- 2 cups Milk
Icing
- 1 bag Confectioners' Sugar
- ¼ cup Warm Milk (more or less as needed - you want a slightly thick glaze)
Instructions
- In mixing bowl mix Flour, Dark Cocoa Powder, Black Pepper, Baking Soda and Cinnamon.
- In separate bowl soak Raisins in Bourbon (to cover) for approximately 1-2 hours then drain. Reserve some liquid for later if needed.
- To flour mixture add drained raisins, Melted Lard, Walnuts, and Semi-sweet Chocolate Morsels and blend well. Slowly add Milk.
- Mixture will be slightly sticky. Roll or scoop into small balls and place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake in a 350℉ oven for 8-10 minutes. Bottoms will appear to be cooked and balls will look slightly undercooked - that is correct.
- While still warm dip balls into icing and let cool on a wire rack.
Icing
- Mix together Confectioners' Sugar and Warm Milk. You want a slightly thick glaze.
Notes
Instead of the sugar icing, roll chocolate balls in granulated sugar to coat.
