Italian Sesame Cookies

Known in Italian households as "Giuggiulena" cookies.
The adults will dunk these treats in a good cup of espresso or wine while the kids will love these dipped in cold milk. These cookies are great any time but always appear around the Christmas holidays.

Ingredients
  

  • ½ lb Softened Butter
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 3 Eggs
  • 1 tsp Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 3 tbsp Anise Extract
  • 3 cups Flour
  • 2 tsp Baking Powder
  • ¼ tsp Salt
  • ¼ cup Milk
  • 1 tbsp Additional Anise Extract
  • 1 lb Toasted Sesame Seeds

Instructions
 

  • Cream together Butter, Sugar, Olive Oil. When smooth add Eggs, Pure Vanilla Extract and Anise Extract.
  • Separately sift together Flour, Baking Powder and Salt. Slowly add dry ingredients to egg batter.
  • Dough will be soft. Roll into small logs.
  • Prepare two separate bowls - one with Milk and Additional Anise Extract and the other with Sesame Seeds.
  • Dip log in milk mixture then in sesame seeds – place on a parchment lined sheet pan and bake in a 375℉ oven for 12-18 minutes. Check often to make sure sesame seeds do not burn. Let cool.
