Pigs in a Blanket
The ultimate "crowd-pleaser" party food is this little delight. How often I've heard at my events "It's not a party until they pass the franks." The puff pastry can easily be found in the grocery stores and of very good quality, but for the purists I've included a fairly simple puff pastry recipe. Be patient and take your time for a great pastry dough.

Ingredients
Puff Pastry Dough
- 6 cups Flour
- 2 tsp Salt
- 2¼ cups Water (or as needed)
- 2 lbs Cold Butter sliced into ¼" strips
Prepare for the Oven
- Mustard (your favorite)
- Cocktail-sized Hot Dogs
Instructions
Puff Pastry Dough
- In a mixer fitted with dough hook place flour, salt and water and run machine until dough comes away from sides.
- Turn out onto lightly floured surface, roll dough out to a rectangle and let rest for 5 minutes.
- Place butter strip in center of dough and fold over side to cover butter. Roll back to a rectangle careful not to break dough and expose butter. Turn 90 degrees and fold dough in thirds then roll again.
- Refrigerate for 30 minutes, repeat the roll and fold two more times.
- Chill dough again for 30 minutes before using.
Prepare for the Oven
- Roll out a piece of dough and spread with your favorite mustard.
- Place a good cocktail-sized hot dog on top and roll to cover. Trim dough and repeat with another hot dog.
- Place on cookie sheet and bake in a 400℉ oven until dough is golden brown. Serve hot with mustard and catsup dipping sauces.
